Simple & Delicious Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe

Making your own homemade pizza dough is not only fun but also allows you to tailor the flavor and texture to your liking. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through a simple yet delicious recipe for homemade pizza dough.

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  1. Proof the yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy. This indicates that the yeast is active and ready to use.
  2. Mix the dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough:
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.
  4. Let it rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven:
Preheat your oven to 550°F or as hot as it will go. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven during this time.
  6. Shape and top your pizza:
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into the number of pizzas you want to make. Roll out each piece of dough on a lightly floured surface to your desired thickness. Poke holes in crust using a fork to prevent air pockets while baking.
  7. Bake your pizza:
If you’re using a pizza stone, transfer the rolled-out dough onto a pizza peel or an inverted baking sheet dusted with cornmeal. Add your favorite toppings, and carefully slide the pizza onto the hot stone in the oven. If you’re not using a stone, simply place the pizza on a baking sheet or pizza pan.
  8. Bake for about 7-10 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and browned. Keep your eye on the pizza as to not burn cheese.

Homemade pizza dough is the foundation of a great pizza, and making it from scratch is a rewarding experience. Experiment with different toppings and sauces to create the perfect pizza tailored to your tastes. Enjoy your delicious homemade pizza!
