Homemade Tortilla Recipe

Whether you’re making tacos, burritos, quesadillas, or simply looking for a tasty flatbread, crafting your own tortillas is a rewarding experience. In this blog post, we’ll take you through a straightforward recipe for creating authentic homemade tortillas.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Mix them together until well combined.
  2. Add Vegetable Oil:
Pour in the vegetable oil and stir it into the dry ingredients.
  3. Add Warm Water:
Gradually add the warm water to the mixture while stirring. Continue to mix until a dough forms. You may need to adjust the water or flour slightly to achieve the right consistency. The dough should be soft and not sticky.
  4. Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide and Shape:
Divide the dough into equal-sized portions, usually about 8 pieces. Roll each portion into a ball.
  6. Roll Out the Tortillas:
Roll out each ball into a thin, round tortilla using a rolling pin. Aim for a thickness of around 1/8 inch.
  7. Cook the Tortillas:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Once it’s hot, add a tortilla and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until it puffs up and has golden brown spots.
  8. Keep Warm:
As you cook each tortilla, transfer it to a clean kitchen towel and fold the towel over to keep the tortillas warm and soft.
  9. Serve and Enjoy:
Homemade tortillas are ready to serve! Use them for your favorite Mexican or Tex-Mex dishes or enjoy them with various fillings or dips.

Whether you’re preparing tacos, burritos, or simply enjoying them on their own, homemade tortillas are sure to enhance your dining experience. So, roll up your sleeves and get ready to enjoy the satisfaction of crafting these delightful flatbreads at home!
